Visions in Science Group

The Scientific Event Workgroup of PhDnet organizes an annual interdisciplinary conference, where students from the full variety of Max Planck Institutes can meet and study off-field topics in order to encourage exchange and collaboration. This event takes place during the course of three days in early fall, and consist of talks by inspiring and leading scientists as well as workshops were their “visions” are discussed between students and speakers.

Since 2015, the conference is accompanied by a Career Fair, which gives all participants an insight into industrial career perspectives and access to internships and jobs in various industries. The career fair takes place on the first day of the event and includes presentations from representatives of different companies.

In preparation  for the event, we choose a venue, organize the catering, advertise among the students, invite suitable speakers and arrange the registration. We especially want to balance participation numbers across the three sections of MPS (Biology & Medicine, Chemistry, Physics, & Technology, Humanities), both in regard of speakers and students. The organization committee  is formed  during the  yearly general meeting of the PhDnet. Together we decide on the date, venue and theme for the next event. Our group is divided into two core areas, the conference itself and the career fair.

This year, the event will take place in Berlin, between September 29th and October 1st 2017 and will deal with the topic “Discover new perspectives” with a special focus on changes.
