Mental Health Awareness Week

  • End: Oct 11, 2019
Mental Health Awareness Week
We organized an MPS-wide Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) from the 7th to 11th October, 2019. Each institute was encouraged to organize at least one local event during the week of the 10th of October, which is International Mental Health Awareness Day. This was accompanied by a social media campaign before and during the week to encourage attendance and raise awareness. Additionally, the MPS occupational health management (BGM) steering-group supported this initiative.

Events focused on prevention: raising awareness of mental health and indicators of mental health problems, and providing as many MPS employees as possible with the necessary tools to promote their own mental well-being. Ideally, the event should have helped pave the way for structural change that provides efficient care for people in need and hence facilitates recovery.

Released items:

  • Resource documents (Fact Sheet, Self-help, and Immediate Help) are on the left side.

  • SG letter of support

  • MHAW 2019 Offspring article by Madeleine Bleasdale

  • “Depression 101- what it is and how to survive it” is available here

  • “Acknowledging Burnout and Taking Time Off in the MPS” and “The ABC of Dealing with Stress” are available on owncloud and upon request.

A big thanks to all the organizers participants of the first Max Planck MHAW. It was a blast. We hope that we could convey our message to as many people as possible. We are still amazed by all the events organized at the different institutes. Workshops, talks, discussions, yoga and meditation sessions, health days and many more actions among more than 50 institutes. We are truly amazed by your creativity and we believe that this week was a success. If you have any pictures taken during these events we would be happy if you could share them with us (photo, name, institute, event). We want to highlight your work.

We hope that in some institutes we kicked off some more long-term ideas how to integrate the topic mental health into the institutes routine.
